Dear Robin,

Apparently Toulmin has decided he can't cope, so they are appointing someone else. Obviously this will cause quite a delay, which is a nuisance for both of us, especially for you. I don't feel really at liberty to discuss the thesis while all this goes on. Perhaps if I wrote my report on thesis (as one is supposed to do before the oral anyway) one could do so. It's principally 'subtypes' I'd like to discuss.

Have decided to have another, and rather more cooperative go (at a) psychiatrist. If he can put me into a more resigned frame of mind it would be something.

When in Cambridge, I saw Keith and made him promise to come here some time and tell us about non-Hamiltonian Hamiltonians. Nick says Keith is a Martian. I think he is more like Hermes. Anne is (inifinite)-ly more tolerable. Mellowed by maturity, and not flaunting my S. A. They invited me to stay in their place some time. Had quite a jolly time lecturing on fir cones.

Church is going to write you later, but is terribly busy at present. He made some suggestions about publication.

Yours ever

Alan

Will you be in London over Xmas? We might meet for a meal.
